In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, New York City became the epicenter of the crisis in the United States. As the city’s hospitals were overrun with patients, it became clear that COVID-19 has seemingly become more of a social disaster than a healthcare issue. The virus was having a disproportionate impact on low-income communities, especially communities of color.
