Following the British colonization of India, Mica was discovered and since then, it has been the source of income for thousands of Indian families. Mica is a silicate mineral that is broadly used in the cosmetic industry and India possesses 60% of the world’s mica deposit. But there’s a dark side to this, CHILD SLAVERY. Although under local law, mineral digging is forbidden but in this state of Jharkhand, kids are routinely used in mines to extract mica. There are at least one to two fatal accidents in these mines every month of which some of them are children.
